What I'm after is some software that will allow me to open and edit any audio format (preferably Real Audio as well) and then save it back in any audio format.

Anybody know of any decent stuff that won't put a huge dent in my wallet?

I think you'll be lucky to find anything that will open Real Audio for editing - it is a proprietry format

However, plenty of stuff will save to Real Audio

Shouldn't you be working with standard PCM Wave (.wav) files? It's not like that's a problem on today's hardware

For stuff that doesn't cost a small fortune look for shareware (CoolEdit if it still does shareware), but serious stuff like Sound Forge and a bunch of plugins will cost a fair bit - unless you use google perhaps.

There are several audio editors available for Linux (all free, including Linux) but unless you are technically minded I would avoid this option for now - or do a little research and see if it is for you.

This isn't really to do with film but posting to my site, I need the ability to save in real format or equivalent as they're small. I'd like the ability to edit as I want to put up a music track but rather than put the whole thing up and risk copyright laws I'd only put up a clip.
